Herbalism and the Root Fire: Una Gallagher

At the perimeter of the fire circle lives the Root Fire; one thread that connects to the heart of the central fire. Each night we gather around this small fire to honor the union of Earth, Air, Fire, Water and Spirit.

Together, during the day, we will spend our time attuning to the sacred land, as we connect with the genus locci, the ancestors and living creatures. Through direct experience with the forest, by way of walking, observing, listening, and guided visualization we will hone our awareness and connection as we identify local plants, collect and prepare them.

At the root fire each night, we will brew a mixture of the harvested plants and offer this medicinal tea to all, in communion with the forest, as well as to warm our bellies.

Una Gallagher:

Una grew up on the streets of N.Y.C. in a place called Washington Heights. She discovered the Santa Cruz Mountains in California over 30 years ago, where she still resides.

Una spends much of her time between the Forest and the Seashore. She lives with her partner of 30+ years in a humble cottage in the forest with many birds, insects and other wild creatures.

Her spiritual life shapes her daily life and nature is one of her greatest teachers. She is dedicated to the Ancestors, the Goddess, and the Sacred Land.

Nature teach us, make us children of the earth again...
